I’m Nervous About My Microneedling Treatment

Skin conditions like acne scarring, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation may lead to confidence problems, especially as you age. If you want to take control of your skin, various cosmetic procedures can help.

Microneedling is one of the best cosmetic treatments that enhances collagen production for flawless skin. However, thinking of tiny needles puncturing your skin may be stressful, and you're probably a little stressed about your appointment.

The good news is there's not much to worry about regarding microneedling. At VitalizeMD Skin Care & Laser Center, Dr. Zainab Nawab provides various cosmetic treatments. She helps you feel at ease before your appointment.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes tiny needles to stimulate elastin and collagen production in the skin. The tiny needles create microtrauma on the skin, encouraging the body's healing properties and promoting a healthier complexion.

One of the benefits of microneedling is that it has both medical and cosmetic uses and is minimally invasive. You may need microneedling if you have any of the following skin conditions:

Elastin and collagen are the proteins that ensure your skin stays taught and firm. As you age, your body produces less of these proteins, leading to the signs of aging.

Microneedling is a great option when you're looking to improve your appearance without undergoing more invasive cosmetic procedures.

Preparing for microneedling

Most people are nervous before a microneedling appointment because they're unsure what to expect. The more you know, the better prepared you'll be for the procedure.

You only need to do a little before your appointment other than talk to Dr. Nawab about your concerns and what to expect during the procedure.

You may also wonder if microneedling hurts – and it might a little, but we give you numbing cream to apply to your skin beforehand. You should use the numbing cream about 45 minutes before your appointment for the best results.

During the procedure, you may still feel some discomfort or poking sensations as the roller pierces your skin. However, most people tolerate it well, especially with the numbing cream.

Being nervous about your procedure is okay but shouldn't keep you from your skin goals. Talk to Dr. Nawab about your microneedling concerns to ease your mind and prepare yourself for the procedure and the outstanding results.

Are there any risks or side effects?

One of the aspects of microneedling that may have you feeling extra nervous is the possible side effects. However, you can rest easy knowing that a few side effects come with microneedling.

To prepare yourself for your first microneedling appointment, you must understand the few side effects and adverse reactions you may experience, which include:

  • Skin irritation
  • Redness
  • Infection
  • Bruising
  • Peeling
  • Bleeding

Most of these side effects aren't familiar. However, it's typical to have redness and skin irritation for a few days after the procedure. You can use ice packs to help soothe your skin after microneedling.

You may need several microneedling procedures until you see the results you're hoping for. It typically takes several weeks to a few months to see visible results, and you may need maintenance treatments yearly to maintain your results.
